The Poverty Equity Opportunity Committee is a part of the Community Resources Committee of the ARC. This group is tasked with convening stakeholders around the issues related to poverty in our region.
Suburban poverty has grown quicker in Atlanta over the past ten years than any other metro area in the country. This impacts schools, local governments, service providers, and infrastructure decisions. A regional conversation about how we address these concerns will help communities plan and collaborate so that all our region’s residents have access to the tools they need to thrive.
The committee is currently compiling on a report that summarizes its work since November 2013. The report will also share recommendations on how this work could continue.
Committee Mobile Work Session
On September 22, 2015, members of the committee and other community partners explored need and opportunity in three metro Atlanta communities. The group heard from leaders in Norcross, Thomasville Heights and Clayton County on how they are dealing with impacts of increased poverty and expanding economic opportunity.
