(ATLANTA - Feb 26, 2013)
The first annual Water Drop Dash 5K race will kick off national WaterSense Fix a Leak Week Saturday, March 16 at Chattahoochee Nature Center. The Home Depot is the presenting sponsor. This race, organized by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District and local water utilities, follows a fast and flat course along the banks of the beautiful Chattahoochee River.
The Water Drop Dash 5K run/walk is being held to raise awareness about the need to find and fix household water leaks. American homes can waste, on average, more than 10,000 gallons of water every year due to running toilets, dripping faucets and other household leaks. That’s close to how much some households use in two months! The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District and local water providers encourage metro Atlanta residents to participate in the Water Drop Dash 5K race and then check their plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks during the annual Fix a Leak Week.
The Water Drop Dash begins with a Children's Fun Run at 7:30 AM. Local water utility mascots will join the fun. The 5K race will start promptly at 8 AM and will be followed by a water festival full of prizes and kid's activities.
Awards will be given to top overall male and female, top masters male and female and top male and female age group from 6 years old and under to 70 years old and over, in five year increments. Each registered runner will receive a performance tech short sleeve t-shirt. All race participants and the first 300 guests will receive free admission to Chattahoochee Nature Center on race day.
Entry fee is $25 on or before March 13; $30 on day of race. The Kid’s Fun Run is $15.To register for the race and find more information, please visit www.waterdropdash.com. Runners may also register online at active.com or in person at any Big Peach Running Company location.
