As the area agency on aging, ARC’s vision is to serve as a focal point for older adults and caregivers in the delivery and coordination of information, resources and services that support a healthy and enriched quality of life. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) collaborates with county-based agencies, other government agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses to design and implement an array of programs to serve older adults and caregivers. ARC also provides information and counseling on other government programs such Medicare and Social Security.

Thanks Mom and Dad Fund

The Thanks Mom & Dad Fund® was created in 2001 by the Atlanta Regional Commission in cooperation with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. The fund works to improve the quality of life for older adults and honor the contributions older generations made to our lives and communities. Through its grants, the fund seeks to encourage innovation and increase services for older adults in Georgia. The fund makes one round of grants annually.

Community and In-Home Support

Keeping older adults in the community as they become frailer is the goal of many programs offered through the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). Community-based care is often less expensive than care in a facility drawing on the older person’s network of friends and family for informal support. Community-based care also lessens the likelihood that the older person will experience depression. Experienced counselors with AgeWise Connection can help older adults and caregivers with questions about available services.

For individuals who are on Medicaid or who are Medicaid-eligible, there are two programs designed specifically to help older adults remain in the community:

For those who are not currently Medicaid-eligible, there is Support Options, a new demonstration program.

Caregiving

AgeWise Connection provides information and assistance to family caregivers. Our certified information specialists offer phone consultation for caregivers who need help making decisions or solving problems related to their caregiving role.

Health and Wellness

As the Area Agency on Aging for the 10-county region, the Atlanta Regional Commission offers an array of health and wellness programs to help the region’s older population remain healthy and independent. Numerous community partners collaborate with ARC in the development and implementation of these programs.
