Environment

ARC works to protect metro Atlanta's environment, assessing the impact on air quality of the long-range transportation plans, working with local and state partners on strategies that protect watersheds and conserve resources. With metro Atlanta’s population forecast to reach seven million by 2030, protecting the region’s environment is more critical than ever.

Stricter standards for ozone and measures of particulate matter have raised the bar for air quality.

Growth is increasing pressure on the region’s water supplies and making efforts to reduce water pollution more difficult.

Local governments are working hard to protect open space for parks and nature preserves.

The Atlanta Regional Commission is working on all fronts to protect the environment, assessing the impact on air quality of the long-range transportation plans, working with local and state partners on strategies that protect watersheds and conserve resources and developing a comprehensive regional greenspace plan in conjunction with local governments.
