Between spring 2001 and spring 2002, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) conducted a Household Travel Survey. The main purpose of the survey was to provide updated information on the travel behavior of residents in the 13-county Atlanta non-attainment area.
Households were randomly selected and asked to participate in the survey. Those agreeing to participate were assigned a two-day travel period during which to report trips. Information was collected from 8,069 households. When weighted to reflect the population of the region, the households represented 21,323 persons, 14,449 vehicles, and 126,127 trips.
