Water Use

Fifty-five percent of water supplied in the Atlanta region is for residential water use. This is water that goes to our homes for toilets, showers, laundry, lawn watering and many other uses. Because the Atlanta area has a service-based economy, only 21% of water supply is for commercial uses such as in restaurants, hotels, offices, and others. The region has almost no heavy water using industry. Non-revenue water is another large supply which includes uses such as fire hydrants, water system maintenance, some municipal uses and leaks or breaks in the system.
Where does the water come from?
