Housing

Last modified Wednesday, March 19, 2008 15:01

Housing is an essential need for all citizens of the region. Although many families are able to find the type of housing and costs that meet their needs, other families cannot afford to live in areas of the region where jobs are located or have housing needs that are changing. (Fayette Villages) - ARC has many efforts that deal with housing including the Regional Housing Forums and housing studies funded through the LCI program.

Housing needs change with the population growth of the region. Many senior citizens desire smaller housing sizes or need homes that meet their changing physical condition. As new families move to the region, they often must make a choice between the cost of housing and the length of a driving commute. Young families who have lived their lives in certain communities are not able to become homeowners in the area.

The demands for housing strategies in the Atlanta region will continue to increase as the region grows. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and local governments must understand housing needs and ensure strategies are in place to meet community housing needs. ARC has many efforts that deal with housing including the Regional Housing Forums and housing studies funded through the LCI program.   As the housing needs in the region change, ARC will continue to investigate new strategies to meet the regions housing needs.

Housing Forum Information

Over the past decade, metro Atlanta has led the nation in housing production, yet today the region suffers from persistent lack of housing appropriate to critical needs, including workforce housing proximate to employment centers. This is a key factor in the region's challenges in transportation, environmental quality, growth management, and community building. For more information about housing forums, please click on the following links regarding recent housing forums or contact us.  For information on future housing forum dates, please check our events calendar.
