Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the application and integration of advanced technologies, information processing, communications technologies, and advanced control strategies for the efficient and effective operation of the existing transportation system. Examples of ITS include:
- Roadway management - signal synchronization, cameras, and variable message signs
- Incident management - HEROs
- Emergency management - signal preemption
- Transit management - transit signal priority
- Traveler information - *DOT and 511
- Systems management and operations
