Creating quality communities and providing options for existing and potential residents often involves making formal changes in community codes and regulations. Following are examples of ordinances that have been adopted by local governments in the Atlanta region and the rest of the country. Like the toolkit, these sample ordinances cover diverse policy topics that individually, and or together, promote balance and choice.
While we are not promoting a single "model ordinance," the ordinances listed were selected because they represent diverse ways of implementing the same policy. These examples are intended to be used as a guide for cities and counties in the development of local ordinances. We expect that local governments will need to consider their own unique circumstances as they begin to develop similar ordinances and policies.
