Business Services & Resources

Last modified Thursday, February 14, 2008 14:23

The Atlanta Regional Workforce Board works with businesses, education and government entities to ensure that the region’s workforce meets the needs of the business community.  Services include employee recruitment, customized training projects, On the Job Training, assistance in rightsizing, and economic development partnerships.

The ARC/ARWB has been selected to participate in the National Business Learning Partnership II, a national peer-to-peer mentoring project designed for workforce investment boards engaged in transformational approaches to workforce investment. As a workforce area that is committed to developing talent as an asset for regional workforce and economic development, the ARC/ARWB will have an opportunity to learn from areas that have made sustained and significant progress in the transition. The ARWB will work with a mentor to help address issues, including strong and sustained strategic regional partnerships and leveraged resources and solutions-based strategies.

Business Partners Recognized at  ARWB’s Annual Awards, December 2007

Dr. Norberto Fas, Atlanta Veterans Medical Center
Dr. Norberto Fas, Assistant Chief of Staff, Atlanta Veterans Medical Center for Education is an Outstanding Business Partner who has provided two School At Work (SAW) classes and arranged for a third class.   In addition to making SAW classes possible, Dr. Fas attends graduation ceremonies where he congratulates and encourages SAW students to take advantage of excellent upward opportunities available to them.  In his graduation speech to the recent VA SAW Class, Dr. Fas told them about accepting an invitation to a meeting at St. Joseph’s hospital hosted by ARWB and Catalyst Learning where he was introduced to School At Work.  He told the graduates:  “This wonderful program fell down from Heaven.”    We like it too, Dr. Fas.

Susan Stubbs, Gwinnett Medical Center
As Director of Learning Resources Ms. Stubbs has provided oversight for an excellent group of students at Gwinnett’s first School At Work (SAW) class.   Gwinnett Medical is involved in a massive building and expansion project; yet Susan has found the time during the expansion activities to recruit excellent candidates and engage a consultant as Facilitator for School At Work.

Douglas F. Abell, Emory Healthcare
Doug Abell, Education Manager for Organization Development and Learning Services, served as Facilitator of two excellent Emory School At Work (SAW) classes, and went “above and beyond” to invite a college admissions representative to the Emory campus to meet with graduates about their future plans.  The SAW opportunity was offered to students at both Emory and Crawford Long Hospitals.

Stacy Mueller, Juvenile Court Probation Officer in Clayton County - Outstanding Collaborative Partner
Ms. Mueller, has been invaluable in assisting with all aspects of workforce development.  Beyond making referrals to Prevention Plus, Inc., she has collaborated with Prevention Plus to develop worksite job shadow placements, assisted youths with employment applications, provided coaching on job skill development and provides creative opportunities for youth to mentor other youth in the community.  She consistently strives to help each youth meet his/her potential and make lasting life changes.  As a result, her efforts have greatly contributed to the overall success of the probation youth under her charge, with the vast majority not only graduating from school, but also becoming productive members of society.
