In the State Plan, the Georgia Division of Aging Services (DAS) indicates how Georgia will meet the requirements of the Older American’s Act and addresses their goals and objectives in reference to service delivery, strategic planning, and intrastate funding. The Administration on Aging (AoA) requires all states to submit multi-year plans outlining their aging program goals, objectives, activities and the needs of the aging population. There are four AoA priorities for the State plan: increase the number of older people who have access to an integrated array of health and social supports; increase the number of older people who stay active and healthy; increase the number of families who are supported in their efforts to care for their loved ones at home and in the community; and, increase the number of older people who benefit from programs that protect their rights and prevent elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
In partnership with the Area Agencies on Aging, DAS administers the following programs: Community Care Services Program (CCSP) provides home and community-based Medicaid services to help nursing home-eligible consumers remain in their homes, including Adult Day Health, Alternative Living Services, Emergency Response Services, Home Delivered Services, Respite Care, Personal Support Services, and Home Delivered Meals; non-Medicaid Home and Community Based Services provides 47 individual and group services to assist older eligible Georgians remain in their homes; Adult Protective Services investigates reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation of disabled adults and older persons who are not residents of nursing homes or personal care homes within the community; Elder Rights and Advocacy programs that include legal services, and elder abuse prevention and health insurance counseling through the GeorgiaCares program; and the Senior Community Service Employee Program that provides training for unemployed low-income Georgia seniors age 55 and older and helps them obtain paid employment.
