Solutions for Congestion Several strategies are available to planners and citizens of Atlanta to help reduce congestion. Below are some examples of congestion relief strategies. Each strategy type has a certain benefit towards alleviating congestion.
- Transit use: MARTA, GRTA X-Press Bus Service, Cobb County Transit, Gwinnett County Transit, C-TRAN (Clayton County Transit)
- Ridesharing: High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) capacity addition, carpooling or vanpooling
- Advanced Technologies: Traffic surveillance, incident management, traveler information systems
- Growth Management: Mixed-use development, telecommuting, flexible work scheduling
- Traffic System Operations Optimization: Traffic signal synchronization, additional turn lanes and medians, volume detection
- Capacity Addition: Single Occupant Vehicle (SOV) capacity addition (i.e. new roadways, additional lanes)
