Metropolitan Partnership in Aging to Honor Area Businesses for Age-Friendly Programs
(ATLANTA - October 26, 2006) Who: The Metropolitan Partnership in Aging (MPIA) is a consortium of 10 county-based aging programs and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), Atlanta's Area Agency on Aging, to raise public awareness of the needs of senior citizens in the Atlanta region. The partnership works with area businesses to develop programs that are mutually beneficial to older adults, businesses and the aging network.
What: Business & Aging Awards Luncheon. MPIA will present its annual awards to metro area businesses that have implemented programs designed to assist older adults in the region. Tad Leithead, senior vice president for Cousins Properties, will be the keynote speaker.
Finalists for this year’s awards are Delta Air Lines, Federal Home Loan Bank, Ritz Carlton Buckhead and Universal Design Alliance.
Previous winners WSB-TV Family 2 Family, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Up the Creek Fish Camp restaurants, Outback Steakhouse in Suwanee, Pfizer and the Georgia Pharmacy Association.

Why: The population in the Atlanta region is changing. Over the next 10 years, the number of residents over the age of 60 will increase dramatically, impacting every segment of society. This demographic shift is predicted to result in changes in demand for housing types, transportation options and consumer products. The Business & Aging Awards recognize innovative examples of programs, products and services that meet the needs of this growing population.
