Gwinnett County

 

Gwinnett County was formed in 1818 from lands obtained from the Creek and Cherokee Indians. It is named after Button Gwinnett, one of Georgia’s signers of the Declaration of Independence. According to 2008 Census estimates, it is the second most populous county in Georgia, behind only Fulton. At 433 square miles, Gwinnett ranks 50th (out of 159) in the state in area and second in the 10-county region.
