In 1990, the Georgia General Assembly passed the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act, which set a path toward improved solid waste management in the state.
It is the responsibility of Regional Commissions in the State of Georgia to serve the public needs by providing necessary technical assistance to local governments to promote, establish and implement comprehensive solid waste management planning. ARC's role is to help make sure municipal and county governments and regional coalitions act in conformity with the minimum planning standards and procedures for Solid Waste Management.
